美國勞工部10月10日公佈，經季節調整後，截至10月5日為止當週，首次申請失業救濟金人數較前週大增66,000人至374,000人，創今年三月以來的新高。根據彭博社的調查，經濟學家的預估中間值為增加至31.1萬人，預估區間介於30.4-34萬人之間。上週首次申請失業救濟金人數的4週移動平均值較前週增加20,000人至325,000人。

勞工部發言人表示，上週初領失業金人數增幅有一半是因為加州的電腦系統轉換完成之後恢復正常作業，而聯邦政府關門則約令上週初領失業金人數增加15,000人。

截至9月28日為止當週，經季節調整後，連續申請失業救濟金人數較前一週的修正值減少16,000人至2,905,000人。當週連續申請失業救濟金人數的4週移動平均值較前一週的修正值增加22,500人至2,858,750人。截至9月28日為止當週，經過季節性因素調整後的保險失業率較前週修正值持平為2.2%。
